On 6 November, we enjoyed the wonderful 2019 Lady English Lecture by Sarah Weir OBE, introduced by our Principal, Professor Sir Gordon Duff.

In her talk, 'Designing the Future: Who is doing it?', Sarah Weir showed how learning from history helps us to look ahead and create an inclusive environment where all people feel comfortable. She took the audience through the history of the Council of Industrial Design and the contribution of some influential women designers and architects to the present day and the 75th anniversary of the Design Council. We gained an understanding of how design can solve complex problems. Sarah gave examples of how using the 'head, heart and hand' can combine to make any given situation better, contributing to a world designed by everyone for everyone - and how the best design is invisible.

Dr Georgina Paul chaired an inspiring question and answer session before thanking our speaker. If you missed the talk or would like to watch it again, it will be available soon on the JdP website
