St Hilda's Senior Members are recognised in the New Year Honours List 2021
Wasfi Kani OBE (Music, 1975). Wasfi, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Grange Park Opera, has been awarded a CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) for services to Music. Wasfi received an OBE in the New Year’s Honours list in 2002 for her work in bringing her second opera company, Pimlico Opera, into prisons. In response to her CBE this year, she said: 'First and foremost, I must say that this is a joint achievement: an achievement of my colleagues as well as the generous people who believe in Grange Park Opera’s vision.'
Alison Judith Bailey Castellina (English, 1974), Technical Standards Lead, Heat Networks, Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, has been awarded an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) for services to Consumer Protection and to Diversity and Inclusion. On her work to support people with long-term chronic fatigue, Alison said, 'This MBE is also for my work on long term health conditions and particularly for my support for those with post viral fatigue conditions, over many years. I founded the first outreach for children with ME (now the national Tymes Trust charity) and I was on the Chief Medical Officer's Working Group on ME. ME has now been recognised, through Long COVID, as a disabling post viral condition.'
Many congratulations to Wasfi and Alison and everyone who has been recognised in this year's Honours List.
