Current Events Taking Place in Schools

Surrey Schools - St Hilda's College Partnership

The partnership offers twilight academic tasters and application information sessions for students in a rotating host Surrey state school, between 4.15–6.15pm, upto twice a year. Our first-ever session was hosted by Howard of Effingham School in Leatherhead and was attended by YR12 students from over ten Surrey schools. Academic talks were delivered by Dr Stephen Wren, Associate Research Fellow in Chemistry and Dr Daniel Bulte, Associate Professor in Engineering Science & Physics.

The purpose of these sessions is to give students a guided opportunity to deepen their knowledge and understanding, in subject areas they may like to study at university. These sessions also include a section on how to make a competitive application to the University.

If you are a teacher from a state school in Surrey and would like volunteer to host a subject twilight session of your choice then please contact Corinne Tomsett directly to begin planning the event together.

University Events Supported By St Hilda's College

Each year the University of Oxford work alongside our Cambridge partners to deliver a series of joint Oxbridge conferences for Year 12 (or equivalent) students and their teachers/HE advisers. These fantastic events provide up-to-date information on the application and admissions processes at both institutions, as well as an insight into student life. Your students can meet with admissions & subject tutors and current undergraduates, and observe mock interviews. They will also find out more about individual subjects and student finance, including available bursaries and grants. For more information, go to the student conference website.

Because the University recognises the key role that teachers and careers advisers play in encouraging students to consider their options and make informed decisions, we also run regional teacher conferences, for which applications are now open. During conferences, we welcome the chance to talk with teachers and advisers about supporting their students through all aspects of considering, and applying to, Oxford. St Hilda’s College Schools Programme Officer, Corinne Tomsett, also attends both the Oxbridge conferences at Epsom Downs Race Course and, when offered, the Teacher conference in Knightsbridge. These events offer a good opportunity to meet up and ask any questions about any aspect of the schools programme and discuss any support the college can offer schools.
